Classy A. J. Ross London® Solid Brass 4" Brunton Survey Compass

This Ross London® compass with adjustable legs and an external spirit level - this beauty measures 4 inches in diameter, stands 3.5 inches tall with the lid closed, and weighs over 3 lbs! It is a classy and fully functional repro of an antique stand surveying Brunton compass.

The Brunton Compasses is an instrument used by geologists for measurement of the altitudes of structural features. This compass can help a person develop the ability to visualise lines and planes in three-dimensional space. On the cover of this compass there is a Natural Sine Scale for calculations of different readings during a survey. Under the cover is a mirror used for taking reflecting readings from the dial. It has a level inside, which tells you when the base of the compass is horizontal. The levels are adjusted by moving the lever situated under the compass. The entire mechanism allows measurements of dip or plunge angles. On shutting the compass, a needle lift mechanism locks the compass needle. This protects the magnetism when transporting the compass.

This beautiful Brunton is around 4" in diameter and 1.5" thick. This is a fully functional New Brunton compass, and is made exactly like the ones made around the 1890.

  • Magnifying lens built into the front sight read the compass heading.
  • Slotted screw on the outside of the case rotates the entire compass rose to adjust your local magnetic declination angle (the difference between true north and magnetic north).
  • Needle lift mechanism that protects the jewel bearing when transporting the compass.
  • Natural sine table embossed on top of the lid for easy reference.
  • Beautiful walnut wood hardcase with brass accents...
