The sundial can be folded inwards and is as accompanied by a hinged curved scale that helps set your local latitude angle. The combo of sundial and compass is of great utility as the magnetic compass allows the sundial to be oriented North. This compass features a needle lock mechanism to protect the compass's jeweled bearing when being transported. This is very important since most low end compasses tend to give faulty readings due to a shift in alignment of the needle during transport.  Local time is marked by the sun's shadow cast by the extendible vane.  The entire unit can be folded inwards before repacking.
